I never set out to write a book. Well there was that time in school when I was in about the 5th grade I wrote two lines of a story and that was it. After that, I never pursued to write a book.
The motivation for me to write a book did not come because someone else wrote one, or I was trying to copycat anyone, the motivation came from a whole lot of people encouraging me to write one.
I am known for telling funny stories and telling jokes. I use this talent to enhance my job of serving people where I work. Over a period of time serving as a Dining Room Host people, “Out of the Blue,” told me I need to write a book of the stories and jokes that I tell. By the way, in case you didn’t know, “Out of the Blue” means a phrase describing an unexpected event.
What was interesting about this is that the encouragement came from various people, all of whom had no idea others were saying the same thing. I would be asking how people’s food was or did they need a refill of their drink, and asking about their day and all of a sudden, not even on the subject of a book, they would “Out of the Blue” ask, “Why don’t you write a book” or they would say, “Gerald you need to write a book of your stories” and others would say write a book of my jokes. I even had people who saw me in stores, church and other places say the same thing.
One morning, after several weeks of this happening, I was again encouraged to write a book. So, I went into a little closet in the dining room where we keep our supplies, I looked up as in looking to God and asked, “God are you telling me to write a book?” God I don’t want to write a book, but if you want me to I will.”
After a few days of pondering on this, I was at work doing my duties and wondering at the same time, what in the world would I write about. Suddenly, chapter titles began to fill my mind, so I got some stationary (also known as a napkin) and wrote sixteen chapter titles within a couple of minutes.
After that, many things took place to where I am now – I have a book.
Oh, yeah, “How did the title come about? Well I will tell you.”
I was looking at some books in a local book store. I picked up a book because the title caught my eye. I then under my breath said, “Lord, I want a catchy title for my book.” Just then the title and the meaning of the title of my book came into my head. I found a piece of paper and wrote it down. I shared it with several friends and they really loved it. So, that is how the title came to being.
I truly hope that this book is going to enlighten someone’s day, bring happiness and bring healing to hurting people through laughter.
Happy Reading!
